My Gameweek 1 First Draft

Ok, here it goes! This year is going to be my year.. I’ve given it the big guns to everyone i know that plays FPL so i need to deliver.

Using the data contained within the image below, i’ve hit my head against several walls to make the perfect starting team based on the opening fixtures.

So this is the first draft..

(GK) Jordan Pickford – What a Euro 2020 tournament he had.. This decision is entirely based on the first 10 fixtures for Everton. Their toughest match is United way forward in Fixture 6. Yes, Southampton and Leeds are capable of scoring goals in the opening game weeks however, i’m comfortable to just sit on pickford and look to transition out to a Leno or Sanchez later on in the year.

(DEF) Trent – I wanted to keep my spending to a minimum along the back line but i feel anyone going without Trent is at a major disadvantage. He has a full pre-season with Liverpool due to not being involved in the Euros. He has a point to prove and Liverpools opening fixtures are lovely.

(DEF) Dan Burn – Opening fixtures for Brighton are great. I think they are a good side and fancy them to keep at least 1 clean sheet in the opening 2-3 games.

(DEF) Mings – A tough decision between Mings and Coufal from WHU. I went with Mings because they are a solid team with an excellent GK in Martinez. I’ll look to transfer him out before Chelsea game in GW 4.

(MID) Salah – First name on the team sheet. How could you not have him?

(MID) Pepe – This is the season for Pepe to string together solid performances. I feel out of all of the Arsenal attacking players he’s technically the best. He takes set pieces and if Arsenal are going to do well, he will be at the heart of it.

(MID) Raphinha – This pick is based on the free flowing football that Leeds play. They are always entertaining to watch and always look like scoring a goal. When they do score, Raphinha is usually involved. Expecting big things.

(MID) Trossard – This is my wildcard player. I think he’s definitely overlooked. A top quality player, who is likely to be involved in any attacking returns for Brighton. A great differential.

(MID) Bruno Fernandes – Another must have player in my eyes. United look strong and have improved their side with the recent transfers. I’d rather have him and not score highly than not have him and 40% of the player base reap the rewards.

(FWD) Cavani – Again i do expect United to do very well this season. They have so much creative talent and Cavani is the perfect target man. I expect a big season from him, if he can keep fit. United have great fixtures and i see them scoring high.

(FWD) Calvert-Lewin – I found it really hard leaving out Harry Kane but i do have confidence that under Rafa, Everton will be a better side and Calvert-Lewin will be the main man. They have solid fixtures, so i feel like i can just set him and leave him for the most part of this year.
